sincere sympathy

The sincere sympathy of the Broomfield and District Residents Association extends to the Lynch family and extended Lynch family, and to all those bereaved by the recent passing of Christy Lynch RIP., Starinagh, Collon . You are in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time for you. Christy was a former member of the Irish Defense Forces, serving with the UN in the Congo in the early 1960s. He rose to the rank of corporal and was highly regarded as a soldier by those who knew him. Retired members of the Defense Forces formed a guard of honor for Christy at the Church of Mary Immaculate, Collon as the cortege arrived for the funeral mass last Saturday, and again at the cemetery during the burial ceremony . A bugler also played the last bell and alarm clock at the grave. Christy was a valued member of the community and served on the Broomfield and District Residents’ Association committee for a time, as well as many other community organizations over the years. The Broomfield and District Residents Association, GFC Mattock Rangers and members of the community provided an honor guard, accompanying Christy on her final trip to New Collon Cemetery for the funeral service. Christy got off to a great start, as he rightly deserved. The large attendance at his vigil was testament to the esteem in which United Nations Veteran (Retired) Corporal Christy Lynch was held in his own community and beyond. Christy’s personal tricolor was flown at half-mast at her home for the duration of her Wake and Funeral, the tricolor that Christy has proudly flown on so many significant occasions over the years. Ar dheis De go raibh to anam dilis.

Blessing of the Graves

The blessing of the tombs took place in Collon on Sunday September 4th. The assistance benefited from the best time, in spite of the atrocious weather of the day before. The hard work of the cemetery committee could be seen in both cemeteries and was widely and positively commented upon by those present. Canon Peter Murphy, Fr. Stefano Colleluori CC, and Fr. John Kieran officiated that day. Pr. Stefano is the new parish priest.

The excellent work of the cemetery committee is about to continue, and there is still much to do. Further work to be carried out will be described and communicated to all concerned in due course.
