Florence Ann Kostuch, 84 – Point/Plover Metro Wire

Florence Ann Kostuch of Stevens Point died on June 14, 2022 after a short illness caused by cancer.

Florence was born on February 12, 1938 in Stevens Point. She was the youngest daughter of Florian and Josephine (Adamski) Krutza. She attended St. Peter’s Primary School and graduated from Maria Secondary School in 1956.

Her father was sheriff or deputy sheriff of Portage County from 1941 to 1956. Florence’s family lived in front of the county jail building while her father served as sheriff. At that time, there were three other sworn officers at the Portage County Sheriff’s Office and no other staff. So Florence and her sisters answered the phones when the deputies were away and relayed messages to deputies who drove personal cars without radios calling county bars and stores to leave messages.

After high school, Florence worked at the Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator.
She married Duane Kostuch at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in February 1961. She quit her job when her children were born to be a full-time mother. She was active in volunteer work at St. Stanislaus Elementary School and was a Cub Scout hangout mother.

She returned to the workforce in 1976 when she joined the other two Point Soo Credit Union (now Simplicity Credit Union). She was an officer when she retired from Point Plus Credit Union in 2001.

Florence loved to travel. After her retirement, she traveled extensively around the world. Unfortunately, she was unable to do this with her husband as he passed away in 2004. On her last trip in 2019, she was able to visit her last five northeastern states, which allowed her to say that she had been in all 50 states.

Florence is survived by her children, Keith Kostuch (Erna) of Middleton, Wis., and Kurt Kostuch (Deb) of Junction City, and four grandchildren. She is also survived by her older sister Ramona Simons of Stevens Point and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Duane, her parents and her older sister Lorraine Brilowski.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for your prayers for the soul of Florence and for the deceased members of the Kostuch, Krutza and Adamski families. All donations can be made to Aspirus Hospice Services in memory of Florence.

A Christian Burial Mass for Florence will be held Thursday, June 23 at St. Stanislaus Church of the Holy Spirit Parish, 838 Fremont Street in Stevens Point. Reverend Steve Brice will offer Mass. Friends are invited to greet each other and family at 10 a.m. in the parish hall.

A rosary will be held in the church at 10:30 a.m. followed by the funeral mass at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Guardian Angel Cemetery.
