John D. Moran – Detroit Lakes Tribune

John Douglas Moran, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and devoted friend, was born December 4, 1933 in Moorhead, MN, the son of Earl and Wilma (Quick) Moran. He grew up in Moorhead, graduating in 1951 from Moorhead High School. He attended Concordia College. Because of his love of aviation, he joined the US Air Force For Aviation Cadet Program in January 1954. John was married to Carol Nikle on January 16, 1959 in Jamestown, ND. After his release in 1956, he began his career with District 4, Minnesota Department of Transportation. He continued his military service with the Minnesota National Guard and North Dakota Air National Guard until 1965. Beginning as a lab technician with the Minnesota Department of Highways, John retired from MNDOT after 39 years as a transport technical support supervisor.

Retirement allowed John to pursue his many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, listening to music, reading, and following his favorite sports teams. He was a member of the Eagles, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Survivors include wife of 63 years, Carol of Detroit Lakes, daughter, Kari (Mike) Williams off Detroit Lakes, 4 grandchildren, Nicole (Chris) LeCuyer, Meagan (Dan), Hedin, Andrea (Michael) Leitheiser, Patrick (Joelle) Williams, 3 great-grandchildren: Kyron, Joslyn and Rinoa. He was predeceased by his parents, Earl & Wilma Moran, one sister, Erlys Barnett and by his parents-in-law, Joe & Elizabeth Nikle and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. The David-Donehower Funeral Home is serving the family.
