Mary Lou Murray

Mary Lou Murray, 85, of Darlington, WI, died on Sunday May 22, 2022 at Lafayette Manor in Darlington. She was born on February 14, 1937, the daughter of Clarence and Winifred (Stack) Hanson. Mary Lou grew up in Darlington where she has lived all her life. She married Francis J. “Buzz” Murray on May 1, 1954 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington. Buzz and Mary Lou started farming after getting married. Together they grew crops, milked cows, and raised cattle and hogs until their retirement in 2005.

Mary Lou is survived by her children: Randy (Kathy) Murray of Elkhorn, WI, Rick (Karen) Murray of Monticello, WI, Kevin (Peggy) Murray of Scottsdale, AZ, Kris (Tom) Reichling of Darlington, WI and Mark (Martine) Murray of Fitchburg, Wisconsin; his grandchildren: Tana (Gary) Vogel, Michele (Justin) Gruenenfelder, Cody (Jennifer) Murray, Ryan (Mindy) Murray, Katelyn (Matt Przybilla) Murray, Jenna (Reid) Gill, Devin (Alex) Murray and Rianna Murray ; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister: Sandra (Elton) Olson of Belvidere, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Buzz in 2010; a son, Tim Murray in 2020; a granddaughter, Erica Droessler in 2021; his sisters, Shirley Orr; Joann McCarten and Karen Davis; and one brother, Steve Staver.

Mary Lou was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and CCW in Darlington. She was known for keeping a tidy house, including making sure her children looked their best for Sunday church. She was very organized and known for being the guardian of sentimental items. She loved to craft, sew, shop and have lunch with her friends. Mary Lou’s favorite pastime was visiting her family and she made sure they all knew how proud she was of them. In her later years, “Grandmother Lulu” especially enjoyed visits with her great-grandchildren, adoringly calling them “little insects of love.” She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

A Christian Burial Mass will be held Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (104 E. Harriet St., Darlington) with the Reverend Luke Syse officiating. Burial will be in the Saint-Rosaire cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at the church with a rosary recited at 8:30 a.m. Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family.
