It is with regret that we note the following deaths in our community over the past few days, as reported on RIP.ie

Denis Courtney

The deaths occurred of Denis Courtney, Kilsarn, Loughduff, Cavan. Denis passed away peacefully at Cavan General Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Friday February 25, 2022. Predeceased by his brothers Joe, Seamus, George and sister Bridie. He is sadly missed by his beloved wife Theresa, his sons Seamus, John, Denis and Martin, his daughters Anne (Murray) Helen (Walsh), his brother Charlie, his sisters Kathleen, Lily and Vera, his daughters-in-law, his sons-in-law, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, parents, neighbors and a wide circle of friends. May he rest in peace.

Resting at Reilly’s Funeral Home, Kilcogy, (N39W1D6) on Saturday from 4pm with prayers at 6pm. Moving from her home on Sunday morning arriving at St Joseph’s Church, Loughduff, for the funeral mass at noon. Burial then in the adjoining cemetery. Private house please. Family flowers only. Please adhere to current HSE guidelines – wearing a face covering and no handshakes.

Dermot Dunne

The death occurred from Dermot Dunne, The Commons, Mountmellick/ Cavan and formerly Cappagh North, Portlaoise. Eldest son of the late Thomas and Sarah and brother of the late Florence Ruddy. Deeply missed by his beloved brother Ken, his sister-in-law Breda. He was the beloved uncle of Sarah, Michael, Jacinta, Orla, Padraig, Niamh and Sarah.

Resting at Moloneys Funeral Home, Mountmellick this Friday evening from 6pm Rosary Recital at 7.30pm. Moving from his home on Saturday morning at 10.30am to St Joseph’s Church, Mountmelick for Requiem Mass at 11am. Interment then in the Saint-Joseph cemetery. Private house please.

Bartley McGovern

Death occurred from Bartley McGovern Cam, Edgeworthstown, Longford / Butlersbridge, Cavan. Formerly of Derryheen, Butlersbridge, Cavan. Bartley passed away peacefully in his 98th year, surrounded by his family and under the loving care of staff at Notre Dame Unit 1, St. Joseph’s Care Centre, Longford. Predeceased by his parents and brothers Michael, Tommy and John, son-in-law Paddy Kenny and brother-in-law Patrick Kiernan.

Deeply missed by his beloved wife Kitty and daughters Maura Kenny (Bracklin), Ann Quinn (Corner House), Cathy McLynn (Ballymahon) and son Bart (Kinnegad), sister Dympna and husband Paddy Cahill (Shankill, Cavan ), his daughter-in-law Aideen, his sons-in-law John McLynn and Philip Quinn, his sister-in-law Evelyn (Ballyjamesduff), his twelve beloved grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Rest in peace.



Bartley will be laid to rest at Glennon’s Funeral Home, Ballinalee Road, Longford N39 EC81 on Saturday 26 February, 3-5pm (promenade only) with prayers at 4.30pm followed by transfer to St. Mary’s Church, Edgeworthstown, arrival 6pm . Funeral mass on Sunday at 2 p.m. Burial then at Aughafin Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, to Our Lady 1 Unit at St. Joseph’s Care Centre, Longford, care of Gogan’s Funeral Directors or any family member.

Turloch Smith

Death occurred from Turloch Smith, Deerpark, Belville, Ballinagh, Cavan. Turloch passed away peacefully at his home. Beloved husband of Bernie, devoted father of Niall, Terry, Conor, grandfather of Charlie, Predeceased by his parents Con, and Bridget, little brother Ciaran. Sadly missed by his brother Seamus, his sisters, Anne, Mary, Patricia and Carmel. daughters-in-law, Charlotte, Mikita, Camila, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. May his sweet soul rest in peace.



Resting at Lakelands Funeral Home, Dublin Road, Cavan on Saturday evening 5-7pm. Pick up to arrive at St. Felim’s Church, Ballinagh for the funeral mass at 2pm on Sunday 27th February. Burial then in the adjoining cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in lieu to the Irish Heart Foundation. Due to HSE regulations, the Smith Family Home is for family and close friends please. Jean Johnston (née Thompson)

The death occurred of Jean Johnston (née Thompson), Creighans, Glaslough, Monaghan. Peacefully, Friday, February 2, 2022, at home under the loving care of her devoted family. Predeceased by her beloved husband Campbell.

Philomene Doherty

The death occurred of Philomena Doherty Faulklands, Glaslough, Monaghan. Suddenly at home. Predeceased by her mother Marie. Sadly missed by his beloved daughter Mary, neighbors and friends. Resting at his daughter Mary’s residence (Faulklands). Strictly private house please. Collection on Monday (2/28/2022), arriving at St. Mary’s Church, Glennan for funeral mass at 11am, subject to Covid 19 guidelines.

Jim Lavery

Jim Lavery 56 Woodview, Killygoan, Monaghan Town, Monaghan passed away peacefully on Friday 25th February at St. Francis’ Hospice, Raheny, Dublin. Jim, deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, wife Jane, sons Colm and Paul, daughter Genevieve, daughters-in-law Miriam and Karen, sister Ann Hannon, sister-in-law Cathy, brother-in-law Frank , her grandchildren Jack, Aaron, Fiadh, Robin, Michaela, Kavina and Mark, nephews Leslie and Alan, extended family, neighbors and many friends. May Jim’s sweet soul rest in eternal peace.



Jim will rest at his house tomorrow Saturday from 4-8 p.m. and again Sunday from 4-8 p.m. Monday morning collection from residence at 10.30am, on foot, arriving at St. Macartan’s Cathedral, Monaghan, for funeral mass at 11am, followed by interment in Latlurcan Cemetery.

Family flowers only please, donations, if desired, to St Francis’ Hospice Raheny, c/o Wards Funeral Home or by donation box. Private house at all other times please.
