Opinions on Mar-a-Lago and the extremist prayers of the rosary

Not-so-important highly classified nuclear secret files.

Guess that justified 46-year-old Adam Bies’ statement to the FBI online.

Now that I have more data, I think Trump was pretty negligent about important national security things and overall cares more about his ego than regular citizens like me.

The fact that Trump was hiding nuclear secrets isn’t really a big deal for a lot of people, including a good number of Catholics. What is very important for them and several other Catholics is to be called extremists by the Democratic-supporting online magazine “The Atlantic” for praying the Rosary. I actually have an opinion on this after reading the article and seeing memes like this.

Is that really what ‘The Atlantic’ said?

In an article titled ‘How Extremist Gun Culture Is Trying To Co-opt The Rosary‘ on August 14, 2022 by Daniel Panneton, he claimed that rosaries were used by Christian nationalists in relation to such hostile weapons as AR-15s. I couldn’t find any photos that matched his claims. My goal in this section is not to do a research article on Catholic nationalism and their love of guns. This is the claim used in the Office Meme above. After reading the article, I found no basis for the accusation that Daniel accuses Catholics of being extremists for simply praying the Rosary.

In the article, he used the word extremist 4 times.

1. On this extremist fringe, rosary beads have been woven into a conspiratorial politics and the absolutist gun culture. These armed radical traditionalists took a spiritual notion that the rosary can be a weapon in the fight against evil and turned it into something dangerously literal.

2. But among radical-traditional Catholic men, these concerns take on a extremist turn, rooted in fantasies of violently defending his family and his church against marauders.

3. Yet convergence within Christian nationalism is cemented in common causes such as hostility toward abortion rights advocates. The pro-choice protests following the leak of the Supreme Court’s first draft decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade, led to a flurry of social media posts at the far-right fantasizing about murdering activists, and these forums responded to Pride Month this year with extremist homophobic and transphobic “groomer” discourse. Rad-trad networks are also involved in organizing Rosary-branded events that involve weapons training.

4. Catholics learn to love and forgive their enemies, that to do otherwise is a sin. But the extremist the understanding of spiritual warfare overrides this commandment. To fight Satan – whose influence in the world is, according to Catholic demonology, real and threatening – is to use violence for deliverance and redemption.

Daniel says those labeled as Rad Trads are those who associate the rosary with violence. The Rad Trads are generally categorized as those who talk badly about the Second Vatican Council, the Novus Ordo Mass, think Pope Francis is a modernist heretic and the worst pope in church history, and Donald Trump is a better catholic as this pope. I’ve literally argued with others who think the latter is true. Those he calls extremists are not the peaceful Catholics who pray the Rosary and listen to Jimmy Akin or Bishop Barron. That’s what Daniel says about us so-called normal Catholics.

For millions of believers, beads, which provide a reminder for a sequence of devotional prayers, are a widely recognized symbol of Catholicism and a source of strength. And many truly feed off the concept of Catholic Church Militant theology and tradition of seeing the Rosary as a weapon against Satan. As Pope Francis said in a 2020 speech“There is no path to holiness…without spiritual warfare”, and francis is just one of many Church leaders who have endorsed the idea of the rosary as a weapon in this fight. In traditional Catholicism, the rosary as a weapon is not an inherently harmful interpretation of the sacramental, and this symbolism has a long history.

He’s not talking about those types of Catholics.

He talks more about these types of Catholics.

His claims about Rad Trads wrapping prayer beads around their guns may or may not be true. But to claim that the article is anti-Catholic and that Daniel paints a picture of normal Catholics praying the Rosary as extremists is simply not accurate. To make this assertion is to distort the article. I am happy that more rosaries are being sold and that others are hastening to pray it more rigorously, even if it is due to a faulty premise. Also, do you rad trads really want to associate the Rosary with combat if Pope Francis said so?

Anyway, that’s my opinion.

Maybe the FBI found prayer beads hidden in Mar-a-Lago.

Catholic Twitter: How long will it take to @Pontifex announce that the Rosary is too rigid for Catholicism Vatican 2?

A quote from Pope Francis:

“The prayer of the rosary is, in many ways, the synthesis of the story of God’s mercy, which becomes a story of salvation for all who allow themselves to be shaped by grace. The mysteries we have contemplated are concrete events through which God’s intervention in our favor develops. Through prayer and meditation on the life of Jesus Christ, we see again his merciful face, which he shows to all in the many needs of life. Mary accompanies us along this journey, pointing to her Son who radiates the very mercy of the Father. She is truly Hodigitria, the Mother who points out the path we are called to take to be true disciples of Jesus. In each mystery of the Rosary we feel her closeness and we contemplate her as the first disciple of her Son, because she does the will of the Father.
