Pray the Rosary for Peace in Ukraine

Reading time: seven minutes

Our Lady of Fatima was seen by three shepherd children in Portugal in 1917. This image by artist Daniel Mitsui (ink on goatskin parchment) is loosely inspired by the statue in the Chapel of the Apparitions. She has a rosary on her, indicating her request for daily rosary prayers. The sunburst behind her head represents the Miracle of the Sun seen on October 13, 1917. She stands on a pattern of tiles in the Portuguese azulejo style, including those with the calligraphic Arabic names of Mary and Fatima. Other tiles spell out the words Credo, Spero, Adoro, and Amo, referencing the prayer the three children learned from an angel: My God, I believe, I adore, I hope, and I love you! I ask forgiveness for those who do not believe, do not adore you, do not hope and do not love you. 15 tiles with roses refer to the 15 mysteries of the Rosary. Image: Courtesy of Daniel Mitsui
