Steven W. Dasenbrock, 64, died Friday July 22, 2022 at his home in Effingham.
A Christian Burial Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with interment in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Steve was born June 23, 1958 in Effingham, the son of Harold R. and Helen A. (Dust) Dasenbrock. He married Karen Grunloh on September 19, 1987. They were blessed with 3 children. Steve started his career with John Boos for 13 years, where he was a shop steward for most of his time. He was manager of the Knights of Columbus building for 9 years. He then served as Effingham County Treasurer for nearly 20 years. Steve then finished his career at J&J Ventures, which he really enjoyed. Amid his day jobs, he was also a well-known softball and baseball umpire for over 15 years. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid stock market guru and enjoyed sharing his strategies with anyone interested. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends through sports and meals. He was known as “Commish” in the coveted Fantasy Football League for over 15 years.
Steve is survived by his wife, Karen of Effingham; sons, Christian (Kalie) of Effingham and Eli of Hendersonville, TN; daughter, Allie (Dylan) Wiseman of St. Louis; his siblings, Patrick Dasenbrock of Teutopolis, Janice Heynen of Effingham, Mary (Michael) Altgilbers of Effingham, Marsha (Gregory) McCracken of West Hartford, CT, Thomas Dasenbrock of Effingham, Beth (David) Yerigan of Ankeny , IA and Cheryl (Darren) Johnson of Watson; mother-in-law, Pauline Zumbahlen from Teutopolis.
His parents predeceased him; sister, Joyce Dasenbrock and brother, Mark H. Dasenbrock; sister-in-law, Mary Dasenbrock and nephew, Jacob Heynen.
